Blackberry Pearl Diamond Edition By Amosu

amosu_pearl_diamond.jpg
Here in Mobilewhack, we've never ran out of luxury story phones to tell. This time, it's the BlackBerry Pearl which is, yet again, pimped. This BlackBerry Pearl Diamond Edition by Amosu is encrusted with 900 diamonds. 900 diamonds! And what's great is that, these 900 diamonds are recyclable -- you can use them for another purpose later if the BlackBerry Pearl starts becoming old. Better yet, all Amosu's handsets come with concierge service. The Amosu Blackberry Pearl Diamond is available in the Amosu web site for US$88,443. Personally, I'd rather see a BlackBerry Pearl covered in, well, pearl -- just for the pun of it (yes, pun intended). Blackberry Reviews

8130pink.bmp

Well, I think love is really in the air. At least love for pink that is. After conquering Verizon in the United States, the BlackBerry Pearl 8130 in its all its pinkish glory is headed up north towards Canada via Telus. But this time, there is also a humanitarian side to this fashionable smartphone as Telus will donate $25 to Rethink Breast Cancer on every piece sold. Get it before the big day on a three-year contract for $99.99 from Telus. I won't bore you with the specs again, but head over here if you are still interested.

“Working with Rethink Breast Cancer allows TELUS to give where we live and reach out to young Canadians in communities across our country whose lives are touched by this devastating illness,” said Tammy Scott, vice-president Marketing Communications at TELUS. “Our TELUS team members give generously to the fight against breast cancer with both their time and their money. And now we are very proud to offer our customers the chance to get behind this important cause as well. TELUS will currently contribute $25 to Rethink Breast Cancer for every pink BlackBerry Pearl 8130 purchased. If we work together we can all rethink breast cancer and win.”

“The pink BlackBerry Pearl 8130 combines function and fashion – something that helps any woman look smart, all while supporting breast cancer research,” said Mary-Jo DeCoteau, Executive Director, Rethink Breast Cancer. “But as important as it is to look smart, we also want women to be smart about their breast health. Women don’t have to have a fancy routine for breast examination, but they should be familiar enough with their bodies that they notice any change.”

I can see this as a great option for those who need to constantly contact people abroad or those who have loved ones in other countries. Raketu offers free VoIP phone calls from your BlackBerry. There are designated "free zones" in 40 countries. For areas not covered by the zone, you can purchase affordable prepaid plans. The application is web-based and hence, all users need to do is sign-up and go to BlackBerry.raketu.com to use the service. The only caveat is that you can only use Raketu with BlackBerrys featuring WiFi such as the 8800 series, the BlackBerry Pearl and the BlackBerry Curve. There also also Raketu applications available for the iPod and the iPhone introduced last December.

And still more to await in the upcoming CES convention. Sling Media has just announced a new HD Slingbox. It then "sling" the video to a mobile device, a computer or to another TV using the Internet. The current model, however, does not offer HD output. Slingbox Pro HD, which will be showcased on CES, will be released on August and would sell at USD$399 a pop. On the other hand, users of Windows Mobile, Symbian and Palm devices have all been able to receive videos through Sling Media. BlackBerry would be a late addition -- a demo of the Sling Player for the brand to be demonstrated on CES as well.

BlackBerry Gets ColorWare Treatment

BlackBerry owners will now have a chance to get more glossy and bright colors for their beloved handsets. ColorWare, a company known as the industry leader in altering the color of existing products, will start offering crazy colors in December 31, 2007 to 3 models of RIM handsets – Curve, Pearl, and 8800.

Well, it’s not just about colors at all. ColorWare uses an X2 Coating technology, a scratch resistant liquid plastic coating to protect your handset and block 99.8% of UV rays so the colors will not fade under the sun.

Other devices using ColorWare are gaming consoles, PMPs, laptops, and even iPhone.

New Blackberry Concepts: Angular Keypad and Scroller

blackberry2008.gif

A new Blackberry concept has just surfaced. Apparently, RIM's thinking of using an angular keypad for future models of Blackberry. It was also revealed that the same design might be used for the onscreen keypad of future touch-screen Blackberry phones. The company claims it will make things easier for the user. We hope so, RIM. The circular keypads of Nokia 3600 and 3650 were bad enough. Aside from the angular keypad, future Blackberrys will also sport LG Shine-like scrollers. An improvement or an impending disaster? What do you think?

Google Speaks Up Better Mobile Google Maps and Location Services

Location has been an issue of conversation since Google launched its Google Earth application. It is reported that Google recently announced its substantial upgrade to its Google Maps for mobile application called My Location.

In an Over The Air Programme (OTA), a conversation with the product manager of Google Maps for mobile Steve Lee, several significant things came to limelight. The discussion was primarily held for knowing about Google's plans for location applications.

Here is the squeezed up information from that long conversation:

What does new My Location feature on Google Maps for mobile do and how does it work?

Steve Lee said that Google's new My Location technology lets those users who don't have GPS-enabled mobile phones get vantage of the enhanced speed and convenience yielded by location information.

The new feature will let users know where they are on the map even while their cell phones are without GPS feature. In case of a GPS enabled Cell phone if user’s mobiles lose the satellite signal My Location will provide them with approximate location information.

The MyLocation Technology can be accessed even faster than the GPS and consumes less battery power. The reason behind this is My Location requires cell tower information immediately available on the device whereas GPS devices need the satellite which takes up to several minutes to establish connection. So it can also work indoors.

Which devices will support My Location?

Many smartphones including all color BlackBerry devices, most Windows Mobile devices, all Symbian Series 60 3rd Edition devices, latest Sony Ericsson devices, and quite a few Motorola (NYSE: MOT) devices.

If you are in U.S., U.K., Australia, France, New Zealand, Italy, Canada, Austria, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Portugal, Brazil, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway, The Netherlands, Russian Federation, or Taiwan, you can easily access Google Maps for mobile with My Location

    Facebook and RIM Join Forces

Blackberry.jpgResearch In Motion, (RIM) makers of the BlackBerry Smartphone, and Facebook are joining forces. A specially modified version of Facebook is now available for Blackberry users. This service, that is only available to T-Mobile subscribers, has been modified to take advantage of the Blackberry’s push-based architecture. In fact, this Facebook version is almost identical to its PC counterpart, which includes a whole slew of options, such as but not limited to image uploading, wall to wall messaging, poking, and more. RIM president Mike Lazaridis explained the similar agenda that the two companies share. “Facebook and RIM share a vision for enhanced mobile communications and social networking based on open, standards-based platforms and this has allowed us to produce a rich mobile application for Facebook users that leverages the push-based architecture, multimedia features and industry-leading usability of the BlackBerry solution.” Industry experts believe that almost 19% of those who use the PC version of Facebook will make use of the wireless adaptation.

  • Blackberry 8300 is the Blackberry Curve

    blackberrycurve.JPG
Deviating from the number based "naming" system that RIM is typically known for, the world was introduced to the Blackberry Pearl, a much more consumer-friendly name. And now it seems we might have another "name" branded Blackberry.

The makers of the upcoming Blackberry 8300 who owned the domain Blackberry8300.com have also snatched up the domain BlackberryCurve.com, which the first one now directs to. The Blackberry, which has been an object of obssession for the business set for years, is seeking out an expanded user base. The Blackberry Curve is set to meld the business and consumer worlds of the Blackberry. Nice. I kind of like this new naming system.

Opera Mini 4 for BlackBerry users

opera-mini-4-blackberry1.JPGOpera mini has a new version which includes special features made for BlackBerrys. The version 4 was released today and makes the whole browsing-on-BlackBerry experience more enthusiastic.

Two of the new features for the BlackBerry owners include:

    - Landscape mode so you can view more content when browsing. Much like what happens with the iPhone.

    - New multi-search Start Page in which you can add the personal favorite search engines to the Start Page.

We want to make Opera Mini available to even more users, so we've improved our support for BlackBerry. Now the world's most popular mobile web browser and most popular handhelds can work together.

The Opera Mini 4.0 version can be downloaded for free at the Opera website.

    Review: Blackberry 8830 Mobile Phone

BlackBerry 8830Blackberry 8830 is the latest addition to the multitasking Blackberry series of phones. This particular phone has various features which makes it a leap ahead of other models. Blackberry 8830 is the World Edition of Blackberry phones. This phone certainly is a world class gadget. It has a full GSM/CDMA coverage where you can enjoy the seamless roaming around the globe. This is among the most exclusive features of Blackberry phones. This GSM and CDMA enabled phone comes with GSM 900/1800 MHz and CDMA/EV – DO 1900/800 MHz networks. And more to all these, this phone has an integrated GPS receiver, which makes your every journey more connecting. This phone is quite similar to the Blackberry 8800; the only difference that we could make out is the CDMA networking. And this can make Blackberry 8830 the most sought after series of cell phones.

If you are looking for a multitasking cell phone with every possible ‘required’ feature then you should definitely opt for Blackberry 8830. As far as the looks are concerned, this phone looks almost similar to other Blackberry phones. It has a large 65K color TFT display with QUGA resolution, which enables it with a clear display. Blackberry 8830 comes in the trademarked Blackberry form factor with the RIM user interface. This 4 mm thick gadget is Bluetooth enabled with a MicroSD memory card slot.

Blackberry 8830 is for those people who need a handheld computer through which they can make some important calls. We hope this phone will surely rock the geek’s world. Now, all that our team has to say is wait and watch.
